Mad Max
Telling a story and hearing a story are one and the same.
I haven't actually seen it (although I feel that I should have,
as one feels one should eat better, read more, recognize a name)
but the gracefully murderous poster, the Road Warrior,
and a thorough synopsis delivered over melting candy bars
on an indolent walk to a summer job--
I have seen an operatic outback and a hurtling metal Valkyrie
but if that thunderous sky was his or yours or mine....
Fortuna imperatix mundi,
the slam and Homeric rage of a supercharged Interceptor
fenced tracts of desert, Kill Zones, bands of the lawless--
I have seen enough to gleefully explain to another friend
the contrivance of a bomb with a broken headlight,
the terrible choice between metal and flesh,
the wall-eyed death which awaits the sinful.
